WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM
Water purification is the process of removing
the chemicals,biological contaminants,suspended
solids and gases from waste water.Water is purified for humans for drinking
purposes and other process including medical, pharmacological, chemical and
industrialusage. The various methods used for purification includes physical
processes like filtration,sedimentation and distillation.In biological processes,slow
and filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such as
flocculation and chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation such as
ultraviolet light. This purification process may reduce the hazardous for health
like bacteria,algae,fungi,viruses,parasites.
The water
has various types including ultrapure water(Laboratory and medical grade water),waste
water, process water. The ultrapure water has specific methods such as degasification,Ultraviolet
disinfection,Ultraviolet ion Destruction and decarbonation involves in removal
of carbon-di-oxide from water for high purity water treatment. The process
water to satisfy a variety of manufacturing needs, such as
rinsing, plating, spraying, coating, cooling and washing. The waste water is
required to meet discharge requirements for dissolved contaminants(oil and greases, heavy
metals,colors,biological oxygen demand(BOD),Chemical oxygen demand(COD) before
disposed into municipal stream.
There are
standard setting organisations among pure water specifications and they look in
different parameters such as silica,TOC,bacterial plate
count, endotoxin, resistivity and others.Typical standards include USP – The highest
purity or quality of water carry a USP designation can vary from the lowest
purity specification.CLSI – Clinical and laboratory standards institute for
preparation and testing of reagent grade water used in laboratories
clinically. The categories of purity include CLRW(Clinical laboratory reagent
water),SRW(Special reagent water),Instrument and feed water, autoclave and wash
water, water supplied by a method manufacturer, commercially bottled purified
water.ASTM(American society for testing and materials) – standards typically
apply more to non clinical laboratory settings.CAP – College of American
Pathologists organization standards for validation and operation of lab
equipments.
